Industrial Molded Rubber Products - Internet/IP Based Surveillance System
Overview
Industrial Molded Rubber Products (IMR) is a Big Lake, MN based manufacturer of custom molded rubber goods and rubber cover rollers. They have an experienced staff and superior manufacturing capabilities to help resolve rubber design issues.

Challenge
When IMR was making plans to move to a new manufacturing facility in Big Lake, MN, they called upon Solbrekk to discuss options for surveillance, security, access and monitoring systems. Laura and Donn Nystedt of IMR were not happy with the image quality of their existing legacy closed circuit TV (CCTV) system, nor were they satisfied with the response time and quality of service of their existing security provider. Solbrekk has provided IT network support and solutions to IMR for over 5 years, has provided project management and made key recommendations for phone systems and voice/data communications network.

Laura Nystedt said “We knew going into our move that there would be “stuff” that we hadn’t planned for nor foreseen. However, we knew that when it came to our network and a new security system that we were working with Solbrekk people who we could communicate easily with and trust.”

Solution
Dale Martell Senior Account Executive with Solbrekk recommended that they move to an all Internet / IP based surveillance system, which utilizes the existing data network and Internet connection which Solbrekk had previously installed and currently supports. The new system allows IMR to view any camera from any location in the world through a standard web browser.

The Solbrekk technical sales team recommended the Axis Communications IP Network Cameras as the best fit for this solution. The Axis network cameras have the ability to auto focus and adjust for changes in light. They have a significant advantage over analog/DVR type cameras that convert the image to digital back at the DVR, resulting in a loss of image quality. The Axis network cameras can get their power over the data network using Power Over Ethernet (POE), thereby saving money by avoiding expensive coaxial and electrical wiring runs.

Dale also recommended Solbrekk partner with Silent Knight for the new security, access, and monitoring system. Solbrekk and Silent Knight were able to provide a customized integrated surveillance, security, access and monitoring system that met IMR’s specific needs.

Benefits & Results
The new system allows IMR the ability to view their facility from home or when traveling. They can remotely activate and deactivate the security system and unlock and lock specific receiving doors to allow for deliveries at non-business hours while monitoring via their Internet connection at home. The images are stored continuously on the surveillance server for a period of 30 days. They like the fact that Silent Knight staffs their own monitoring facility locally with friendly and knowledgeable personnel.

One of the key benefits is with after-hours deliveries. A member of the management team can remotely view the truck and the driver and then disarm the security system and unlock the delivery door. They can monitor the unloading of the truck into the warehouse space. They can remotely watch the driver and truck depart and then lock the delivery door and arm the security system, saving time and reducing costs.

Laura stated “It was good to know that we had Solbrekk working on our IT network and security system so we could focus on running our business and the physical move itself.”
