The FINRA (formerly NASD) is the regulatory body that oversees stock and bond brokerage firms. They require recovery of business operations within approximately 48 hours. About 3 years ago, Cronin contracted the services of a competitor of Solbrekk and its partner, Revelation Network Management (RevNet). Cronin had just installed a new server on their network, and the previous remote data backup provider had led them to believe that they could restore their data to that new server just like in a disaster recovery scenario. After weeks of trying to accomplish a restore on dissimilar hardware, the provider finally gave up, because their software did not have the capability of delivering the required solution. The previous provider also had an incident where one of Cronin’s desktop PCs lost its data and they were not able to restore the data due to data corruption on the provider’s backup system.

 

RaNae Martinson, Controller, said, “I needed to find a better solution and I knew that going back to tapes was not the best solution for us. I was to the point where “I hate tapes” after years of frustration, and I need something more reliable.”

 

RaNae had known Dave Williams, President of RevNet, for many years as business associates, and had a very high trust level with Dave. Dave proposed a remote data backup system using Asigra Televaulting backup software. Dave explained to RaNae that the Asigra software would solve both of the issues that she had run into with her previous provider. By utilizing the Asigra software, RevNet can restore data to dissimilar hardware through Asigra’s bare metal restore process. The data that is stored remotely can be validated after being backed up, to ensure the data can be restored, if necessary.

 

Cronin’s data is stored remotely at a secure data center located 50 miles from downtown Minneapolis. Solbrekk provides IT network support services to Cronin, and also utilizes RevNet to provide remote data backup solution to Solbrekk’s customers.
